Celebrating this year's Latin Heritage Month and Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), Jordan Brand welcomes a special Air Jordan 1 Mid SE that pays homage to the Latine Community and family tradition. Dropping in-store today, the AJ1 Mid SE “Siempre Familia” borrows inspiration from the Pre-Hispanic Mexica belief that, following death, one continues their journey into the world of the dead and towards the Mictlán, the ninth and last level of the underworld. Consulting with the INAH (The Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia) to accurately represent elements of the Mictlán Story, the silhouette takes on a predominantly black colour scheme, with textured Jaguar-print overlays at the mudguard, eyestays, and collar, while black suede takes over the midfoot and heel. A bright pop of red suede is found at the toebox, with white jaguar teeth jutting out from the toe to represent the animal guides that help usher you into the afterlife. Lateral Swoosh’s are reimagined with an embroidered feathered-arrow artwork, while additional details are found at the collar’s ‘Wings’ branding, debossed in a mix of vibrant green, blue, yellow, & red ink, alongside a subtle Alebrije jaguar with a jeweled eye printed at the heel. The release is then completed with a classic ‘sail’ and ‘chile red’ midsole & outsole pairing, four sets of laces (black, green, red, & yellow), as well as the text “Siempre Familia” printed at the midsoles and at the tongues woven labels, signifying that even after death, one is connected to their loved ones forever.
